Dr. R.D. Mukhija is a distinguished former Professor and Head of the Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy, and a former Principal at B.R.D. Medical College, Gorakhpur-273013. He completed his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi in December 1968, followed by an MD from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in December 1972, mentored by the late Prof. K S Kandhari, late Prof. L K Bhutani, and Dr. J S Pasricha.
In 1973, Dr. Mukhija began his illustrious teaching career as a lecturer in Jhansi. He is credited with being among the pioneering individuals to establish the dermatology department in Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Mukhija served at Medical College Gorakhpur from 1975 to 2008, amassing around 35 years of experience in educating both undergraduate and postgraduate students. During his tenure, he mentored over 100 postgraduate MD & DVD students in Gorakhpur.
Dr. Mukhija’s department is known for its bustling outpatient and inpatient services, with 50 beds, along with a variety of research facilities. His scholarly contributions to the field include over 100 scientific papers published in both Indian and international journals. His clinical interests primarily revolve around dermatology and leprosy.
Among the accolades Dr. Mukhija has received is the Teacher Par Excellence Award at Dermacon 2011, held in Gurgaon. He served as the Chairman of the Scientific Committee at Dermacon 2010 in Lucknow and held the position of President at the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) in Uttar Pradesh. Besides his academic and professional contributions, Dr. Mukhija is an active member of the Rotary Club. His lifetime of service was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the UP-UK Cuticon 2016 event in Lucknow.
